I love the metaphor of life being a journey. We travel through this life in community with others. The people we know and hang out with have an influence on us. What we choose to do or not to do, what we choose to say or not say has an impact on those around us. It is virtually impossible to live in a vacuum where we don't have an impact on those around us. So life is a journey ... a journey we take with those with whom we come into contact.
But what kind of journey is your life? What kind of journey is my life? Yeah, now we're getting somewhere! I think of Jesus who was on a journey. He had a small band of people with whom he shared his life. His life, however, wasn't an ordinary journey; it was a revolutionary journey. He set in motion a movement that has shaped and changed history.
As a follower of Jesus Christ, my life should be a revolution of sorts; it should carry forward the revolution that Jesus started. This blog is a modest attempt at carrying forward the Revolution. ~James Brummett
James and Angie have been married since 1991 and are parents of three boys and one girl. They have learned that parenting 4 children is more like refereeing a football game than anything else, that short hair is better for the boys, that a girl can do anything a boy can, and that nightly baths are not optional. Since the birth of their daughter, James has seriously been thinking that arranged marriages are not a bad idea. Angie is trying to talk James out of that idea—no luck yet.
The last time they went to Florida on vacation, they picked up a stray dog and brought him back home. They call him Max. They’re still wondering why they brought him back.
James serves as Lead Pastor of Journey Christian Church in Midlothian, Virginia where he is responsible to ensure that the Journey family is well taught and well led. He does most of the preaching and is the primary communicator of Journey's mission, vision, and values. Journey is a "come as you are" church of messed up people for messed up people. He's been in ministry since 1989 and is a graduate of Cincinnati Christian University.
The posts on the Old Testament serve as supplemental material to James' teaching series on the Old Testament at Journey Christian Church from February 8 to April 5, 2009. In addition to the teaching series is a weekly Bible reading plan and a small group study series all designed to help people better understand who God is and how he works.
